The tourist accommodation Arina 1D for year-round holidays is located in Sardinia in a condominium of 6 units situated in a quiet area in the centre of Quartu Sant’Elena and 2 km away from the beautiful Poetto beach. The latter can be reached on foot in only 20 minutes from the accommodation by walking through the salt pans and is full of restaurants and bathing establishments. The access to the Molentargius Natural Park is also in the immediate vicinity and you can admire the beautiful pink flamingos on the walk to Poetto beach.

Often, among the requests of our guests, are recommendations on the best beaches in the area. Here then is our ranking of the 5 most beautiful beaches on the Cagliari and Quartu Sant’Elena coastline.

We begin with Poetto beach, the main beach of the metropolitan city, which stretches for about eight kilometres, from the Marina Piccola marina to Margine Rosso, in the municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena.  Poetto beach is one of the most frequented places in the summer by both residents and tourists: its clear, safe waters, ample space and services make it a much sought-after destination.

The entire coastline, from Cagliari to Quartu, as far as Margine Rosso, is well equipped with services, including bathing establishments and refreshment points, and is easily accessible via numerous lines of the CTM, the metropolitan city’s urban transport company.

Moving away from Poetto and following Provincial Road 17 to Villasimius, one encounters various beaches and coves with breathtaking landscapes that are a joy to behold.  The beach of Is Mortorius is one of them. It is characterised by its peculiar bottom of gravel of different sizes, down to sand and rocks, and its waters are an iridescent blue. A strip of rocks polished by the sea stretches there, inhabited by a fauna of limpets and urchins. Nearby are also the two coves of Baia Azzurra, hemmed in by vegetation and cliffs. The beach has a small car park and is characterised by a shallow sea bed that makes it easy for children to play. Scarcely frequented, it is particularly popular with underwater fishing enthusiasts.

Continuing along the Panoramic Road that skirts the coast, one comes to the picturesque beach of Cala Regina, characterised by the presence of a Spanish watchtower, with a promontory overlooking the sea. It is located in Terramala.
Cala Regina has a pebble and rocky bottom, surrounded by rocks. Its waters have an iridescent blue colour.
The presence of rich Mediterranean maquis vegetation, with eucalyptus and pine trees, makes its colours stand out even more.
The beach has a small car park and its waters are particularly popular with underwater fishing enthusiasts.

Another area that attracts many tourists every year is Mari Pintau: with its pebbly sand, which once in the crystal-clear waters of its sea gives way to fine white sand, it always attracts many visitors. The name of this part of Quartu’s coastline is due to the particular beauty of the place. In fact, in Sardinian, Mari Pintau means ‘painted sea’, precisely because whoever lingers their gaze for the first time on this landscape is confronted with a unique spectacle that seems to have come out of a painter’s canvas.

Finally, we find the beach of Kal’e Moru, in the locality of Geremeas, also in the municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena, the last before entering the municipality of Villasimius.

Almost three kilometres long, Kal’e Moru beach has a bottom of very coarse white sand and rocks. The name is linked to the pirate raids of the Saracen ‘morus’, which for a long time involved these stretches of coast that were often plundered of men and things.
The beach is rich in facilities: it is accessible to the disabled, has a large car park, hotel, bar, refreshment area and places in general where nightlife is particularly lively. Kal’e Moru is characterised by shallow waters that make it easy for children to play. It is possible to hire parasols, sunbeds and skates. Since it is windswept, it is an ideal destination for surfers and is loved by those who practice underwater fishing.

The condominium is a stone’s throw from the main square, Piazza IV Novembre, from where all the buses to the beaches depart. Also nearby are shops, restaurants and a pharmacy.

Sea, nature and culture

The Poetto beach is only a 20-minute walk or less than 10 minutes by car. The city of Cagliari is about 10 minutes away by car and offers numerous attractions for visitors, such as the Bastion of Saint Remy, the Old City Palace and the Elephant Tower
